New ink

I dunno, first the hair and now a spanky new tattoo (http://www.ravenfamily.org/andyg/images/tat1.jpg). Probably just midlife crisis, but it makes me smile. This is part one of three, it'll end up as a T-shaped backpiece.

Nice. Was it modelled on Stinky?

Will the T-shape be similar to the plans you had before?

As it happens, it was - Stinky's the best-preserved of my mustelid crania and has a really well-articulated jaw. Remember when we found Stinky and initially though "blody hell, it's an Alien" - well, so did the tattooist :)

StinkyMom is a bit, well, Land-Rover damaged, but I'll be using her vertebrae. The grand plan's another one mirroring this one, on the other shoulder, and then a twizzle of spines between the two and heading downward.

And given how much of a wuss I am, the spine bit is not something I'm gagging for...

Have you got a sketch of the finished design that you could put up? (well, as much as a sketch could represent it, at any rate).

Is this the same backpiece you were planning back when we were working together? Or has it changed into something totally different?

Er, nope. Don't even know what it'll look like. Exciting, isn't it? :)

The shape I wanted was always a sort of T-ish arrangement - something across the yoke of the shoulders and down the spine. That's the shape I can feel if I pay attention, and bascially the sape that itched on the way back from my first tattoo (!) Originally it was going to be in black tribal, but since it became apparent (for weirdshit reasons) that it was to be Badgerly, well - Stinky got involved and skulls just look wrong in black. They're white. I tried and they looked daft, and annoying. So since Jay is a good shader, I kinda left him in charge. Once the second skull is down, and I've taken some vertebrae photos, we'll doodle.

Ah yes, tribal and ravens rings bells in my memory - guess it's a good thing you didn't rush out and get that one then!

Not knowing how it will end up does indeed sound exciting - I'll look forward to seeing more photos. Definitely be interested to see the doodles too.

Yeah but you had the potential for weirdness :)

Mmm, good pic and nice tat.

You said you thought the shading looked pretty darkand you weren't necessarily going to consider having more... it will settle down dramatically over the first few weeks - check out the difference between my first, second and third sessions as the original blackwork settles, and there were about 4-6 weeks between those sessions. Just bear in mind that it's dark, not light, which creates the 3D effect.
