Obama love

"I can say without exception or equivocation that the United States will not torture."  -- just now,

Good man.  Okay, I'm realistic enough to know that every state has dark cellars with nasty people in 'em, but torture as policy and the mealy, weaselly way that the Bush administration described it as not *really* torture, that was foul and it stank.

I'm trying to remain skeptical, but every time the man talks, I just end up with a goofy grin on my face. I actually let out a little "whoop!" on line at the bank yesterday, when CNN (on the wall-mounted television) announced that Obama had *not* drafted an executive order to suspend trials at Guantanamo Bay as expected, but instead drafted an executive order to *close* Guantanamo Bay within the year.

I confess it: I like him, and not just because he can put an entire sentence together all by himself.

Is it just that we're used to expecting the low-as-a-snakebelly villainy and evasiveness of the last lot?

maybe. I know people that think he will run the country into the ground. Sadly I cannot even understand that position enough to be able to argue with them. It is just a fail. Nothing they could say can make me see their POV. I'm not usually in that boat.

I'm very hopeful for the country. I feel like Jean Luc just took office. tee hee!

Hopefully he will be Kennedy and not Blair. But anyone who is prepared to can Guantanamo at the first available has started off on the right path

Aye, I had some similar rainbows and unicorns when Blair got in, at first, so I'm trying to hold back the huge grin.

Closing Guantanomo, appointing Mitchell to the Middle East... it's a great start.
