Headdesk Taxonomy

Headdesk Type 1: I hear something appallingly dumb and beat my head against my desk.

Headdesk Type 2: I hear something even worse and beat your head against my desk.

Type 2 is currently favourite for anything 2012.

For awhile, I had a sign on my wall that said "Bang Head Here", with a circle. One of my coworkers, upon seeing it, said "Aw, Joe, don't bang your head on the wall."

To which I replied: "It doesn't say whose head."

I should get a spike with that label.

The only reason I might go see the movie is it has John Cusack in it :)

The movie looks awesome. It really does. Huge and dumb and turned up to eleven. I wonder what the Cosmic McGuffin will be though..?

The Nicholas Cage kaboom flick? Sure did. While it was, ahem, flawed, I was impressed that the director took such bonkersness and played it square and to the hilt.

Are you talking about the film, the Olympics or something else?

The apocalyptic asshattery. Especially the kind that open with "well you say there's nothing to worry about but I heard that the Sun would line up with the Galactic Centre and you NEVER KNOW WHAT THAT WILL DO."

When, in order:

1: It won't. That's simply not a fact. It's not even wrong: two points can't FAIL to line up.

2: Yes we do. Newton worked that all out very nicely, thanks.

3: The Mayans were a bunch of freaking jungle bunnies who thought that disembowelling pleased their smoky feathery jungle gods. They may have OBSERVED some cycles and come up with a mathematics that handled moderately big numbers, but they were NOT cosmologists of any weight and they did NOT understand any of modern physics. They did not have some SEEKRIT UNDERSTANDING WE HAVE LOST.

The idea that they did is credulous woo-fannishness.
