Well, that didn't take long

One for [livejournal.com profile] thudthwacker  : Quick 'n' dirty one-day hack of a Kinect as a puppet driver.  One. Day.

Wow. Damned nice work. And, as you say, damned quick work, too. I'm impressed.

And by "a bunch of kids" I of course meant "myself".

Also, it's a pretty neat application. Set it up with a few different puppets, and I could see a bunch of kids diverting themselves for *hours* with something like that.

Emergent play for the win. And there's a Roomba using one as a sensor for realtime mapping-and-navigation, too.

I call "Kinect Mindstorms" in a week.

A bunch of puppets, and lots and lots of costumes, and costume designers, and downloadable content?

Hours and hours and hours.

I dread to think what might happen if the Scribblenauts people got involved.

"And then the bird turned into a dragon!"
** player:1up:currentmodel(bird)
** transform
** player:1up:morph(bird, dragon, 5 seconds)
""Rarr!" went the dragon!"
** player:1up:sfx(roartype)
** dragon:sfx(roartype: vfx_script:flame, sfx:replay(1up_sound, -2 octave, reverb)
"But the princess had a shining sword!"
** player:2up:weapon:sfx(schwing)

Hours and hours and hours and hours...
