Bristol and Velodrome merriment

I've just been offered a fill-in slot with a bunch of C+ers who have a taster sesion booked at Newport Velodrome on Sunday.  This means I've got an early "in" to my Planned Winter Folderol, that being track cycling.

It also means I've got four days to turn my fixie from its audax/offroad king of oozy trundle into a lean, mean, track racing machine - this being effected by the removal of brakes, some new handlebars, and a teeny tiny cog so I can go vewwy vewwy fast.  And maybe a quick rub down and lube.

It also means that, since the session starts at 9am, I will be in Bristol on Saturday evening.  I dimly recall [profile] stripey_mouse and some others were glomming somewhere - the Hatchet?  Mmm, vile beer and goths.

I think the Highbury Vaults was mentioned at some point. Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] gedhrel & I are hoping to catch up with [livejournal.com profile] stripeymouse too so might see you there.

Either way, it's "vile beer," and that should be a deal-breaker.

Mmm, vile beer and goths.

Is this "(vile beer) and goths" or "vile (beer and goths)"?

In the Hatchet, it would be vile (beer + goths); in the Vaults it'll be vile beer + students (with a standard distribution of goths among the content).

The beer in question is Smile's Brewery output. It's lovely stuff, but it doesn't travel well: there's a little flat dishwater midnote that's characterful locally but two hundred miles away, in a beer festival, that midnote escapes and threatens sanity. The Hatchet's about a mile from the brewery; the Vaults a mile and a half and it's uphill. Could be rough.

Errr..have to srongly disappear with the vile beer comment at the Highbury. The beer is actually very good. The smiles brewery shut down sone years ago (i believe that is correct) and they have been a younds pub ever since...thing waggle dance and winter warmer....yum!!!

Smiles shut down? I am almost heartbroken. It's probably the beer equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome... it was grim but cheap at the Epi, and a chap develops an affection for his bedfellows no matter how strange.

It's the Vaults for good beer then!

Won't see you, sadly, as I'm running Eberron. They're off to storm a tower which will probably be more salubrious than the Hatchet, all things considered.

Hey Hey!!!!!!!

The plan for Satuday is......meet at Browns at 6pm for food - if you fancy it. I believe Ant and Nastia are joining us for that bit...and then to the Highbury for a couple of pints...and then (probably) down to the Hatchet.

I hope you all come!!!! I think Rob is joinging us for beer at the Highbury(?)...
