Lammas RIP

Lammas, aka Mr Scrofula Scroggins and a dozen less flattering names, is dead. He was hit by a driver some time between last night at this evening, and a neighbour kindly went round the houses to find out whose he was. He was about seven years old, in rude health, short-sighted and extremely thick, cowardly and affectionate. He's been buried with a catnip mouse.

His sister Beltane, currently hiding from Project Carnivore under the pseudonym of Moss-Covered Three-Handled Family Gredunza, is well.

I'll be talking to the Council about reducing the speed limit through the village, as that's two cats in six months, and children aren't much bigger. And I've already taken steps to ensure that the offending driver ends up in a ditch or smeared across the local Death Tree.

That's sad - I remember driving you to pick Lammas & Beltane up when they were tiny kittens :(

I'm sorry to hear that :(

O, I'm sorry.

What's a local death tree?

A death tree is one of those trees that cars always seem to hit. You know, the ones covered in skanky rotting bouquests of cheap flowers and. Our local one has four fatalities to its name - it's clearly got the taste for blood. We're building a catalogue; web site to come soonish.

What, you mean "Gaia's Revenge" *doesn't* mean maneating trees? Aw, boo. :)

Ah, I see. So the A14 is a Death Road. That makes me suddenly less enthusiastic about travelling along it...

They're all death roads. To quote:

"But given our collective worship of the car, death is inevitable, don't you think? The cult of the car is a death cult, Priestess. They are fuelled on compressed corpses that require their followers to invent new reasons for killing the inhabitants of the countries where those corpses are to be found, render the air a deadly mix of noxious chemicals and, just to be sure, every so often one of them goes out of control and simply crushes a few people."

Yours or borrowed from someone else?
