One of my fetish items of future-tech, the Google contact lens, is a step closer to realisation.  Boffins at the University of Washington have succeeded in putting a circuit inside a wearable contact lens matrix.  The possibilities are endless but what gets me tickled is the prospect of seriously augmented reality.

And in case you felt young, it's 25 years since breakfast TV first aired in the UK.  I remember it starting up, and that makes me feel damn ancient.  Will we live to see the unbearably cool stuff the future has to offer?  I hope so!

For suitably depressing values of "plus side."

It's my personal intent to be part of the first immortal generation, so, yeah, I fully intend to see the cool stuff. The question is whether the Singularity will hit before the end of the world. Seems it's gonna be a photo-finish on that one, unfortunately. On the plus side, we'll never know if we're on the losing side.

I have a vested interest in being part of that generation sooner than later. The end of the world has always been around the corner; the current threats are slow and brutish so I think we will know -- it's not like a nice clean atomic fireball. Back when I was a kid, even the apocalypse was cleaner.
