New bike!

It's penny farthing season!  This is a replica built by a Veteran cycle Club chap and passed on via a circus chappy.  There's a little work needed (the saddle needs replacing and a new clamp, the left crank needs a screw) and then I can start building up the miles!

... now where can I get a bowler hat and some goggles?  ;)

Will you not just slide off backwards?

Yes. That is why the saddle needs replacing and a new clamp needs to be built. It's like a plan, only with no artifical flavourings or colours. :)

How do you get on and off that (admittedly beautiful) thing.
Can you only start and stop if there's a handy wall?

Who knows? - but I can't wait to see the videos of him trying. Could it be even funnier than the bocks?

I think that originally (and possibly in this case, only it might be foreshortened in the photo) there was a crosspiece a little above the rear wheel. You'd get the bike going and mount to the saddle by stepping up on that.

Indeed: That little silver thingy on the spine just over the wheel is a small peg. You put a foot on the peg, and scoot up to speed, and hop up.

I need Tony Stark's house robot with beer and kerlix.

You want a cheap set of aero bars on that to hold on to. It looks as though you will be bent over double as the handlebars look like they are more or less under your chin.

Chin?

Lap!

I so need to do a super-sprint on this.

I don't care how we manage it, this is so coming to France in August. It can do hills, right?

It can but I probably cannot. I fear that this may have eaten all of my Fun Budget for the year. :(
