Tag 8 people to do this quiz. These people must state who they were tagged by & cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people.  I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] ravenbait .

01. What's the last DVD you watched?

Doomsday, which was enjoyably silly but utterly disposable: a good B-movie.

02. What are you wearing at the moment?

The Dilbert uniform (black chinos, white sleeveless shirt, ID badge) with Army boots and a huge fleece 'cos I'm ill.

03. Who is your favourite writer?

I'm a fickle reader, but I consistently return to Iain M Banks.  He has a clarity of expression that I find appealing, and audaciously huge scope.

04. What is your favourite scent?

Hmm, it's a toss-up between toast and warm human skin.  I get more toast.  Mostly I love a house with cooking smells, especially curry.  It means "good people live here" in my little in-head smellexicon: as a kid, all the curry-cooking parents were gentle hippies.

Bonfires are nice, too.

05. What's that one movie you can watch over and over again and never get tired of?

Conan the Barbarian. It's become part of my packing ritual when getting ready for adventure - Conan on the telly, bags and tools and a brew on.  The economy of the story (especially the dialogue) is very satisfactory, the score is ace, and I've so much good baggage associated with it that it makes me smile just thinking Mako's opening lines.

06. What do you drink the most?

Tea.  White, no sugar.  By the bucketload: if I refuse a cuppa, start looking for the implant in the back of my head.

07. Is there a useless thing that you cannot brace yourself to throw out?

The spine of that pennyfakething, the one which plonked a kid on his arse when it broke.  But I'm a hopeless packrat: the Ikea bag full of bits of wood is a good candidate too.

08. What is your occupation? What do you do there?

I do computers for the NHS - specifically, I support windows servers for the region's big healthcare trust.  And occasionally I break them too.  Every so often I have to scan our servers in the role of Fun Police.  I dislike that part of the job intensely, but it's gotta be done.

09. What did you want to be when you grew up?

A scientist.  Fusion, moon colonies, cure for cancer.  Then: Cure for AIDS, cyborgs, AI.  Then I got to academia and discovered that science was hard.  :)

10. What are your favorite song(s) of the moment?

Disturbed's Indestructible.  It's a dumb chug-fest but a well-done one.  And for riding, Apollo 440, Lost in Space.  It's outstanding when you're playing in the traffic.  I don't have anything deep or beautiful right now.

11. Which characters are overrated?

This one: ¬  What the hell is it for, anyway?  Oh, and the cheerleader.

12. What 3 people would you invite to dinner?

Stephen Fry, who probably appears on more of these lists than there are dinnertimes in his life (may it be long and well-fed).  Paul Watson, captain of the Sea Shepherd, just to gauge whether he was really a good guy or a cock - I still can't tell.  Need a gurl as well.  Jolie, I think, she's sharp and fierce and not as lumpen as the other two.  I don't invite many people over, as I live in a cave.

13. What is your current desktop?

A photo of Pauline Nordin.

14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?

Just the right kind of bonkers.

15. What are you afraid of?

A grassroots shift to the political right.  I'd hate that.  And I can feel it gathering its haunches and getting ready to spring, down here in the rural southwest, if the recession bites hard.  Oh, and my brainrot catching up before I've run out of adventures.

16. Where would you love to go in your next holidays?

Iceland.

17. What are you into right now?

I'm in a quiet spot as I've Mars Phoenix is no more, I've just got the latest tattoo done and have no training goals.  Steampunk, generally.  Turkey burgers.

18. What did you do today?

Drove to work - still too sick to ride - and tidied up after a data migration, clearing the old server and setting it to defragment.  Planned the implementation of a hoaching new archive tool.  Then went to the doc.

19. What do you want?

No financial worries.  A shag.  The world a better shinier place.  Man on Mars.  A perfect body / a perfect soul / but I'm a creep / I'm a weirdo...

20. What should you be doing right now?

Cooking tea: kedgeree if I can be bothered, toast and paté if my throat nixes my gumption.

21. What's the meaning behind your LJ username/name/nicknames you go by?

I usually use my real name.  It messes with people's heads.

Gosh. But there isn't a single praxic use of it that I've ever seen. Is this a nerd easter egg or are there people out there who use it?
