Is it just me, or is this a bit harsh?

The Reg carries this story about a bunch of schoolkids who, when issued with laptops, did what every curious geek will do and played with them. They got past the access controls and loggers, and did such naughty things as downloading chat programs and visiting a smutty website.

How did these evil geniuses break the security?

The kids now face felony charges. That is absurd. The kids need a warning, and the system admins deserve a hearty slap for being so [i]stuposterously[/i] thick.
