So the old PC finally gasped its last, the monitor and (yes, and) VGA card choking and dying simultaneously in a sizzling bvvart of badness. Time to get something newer and nicer... something that doesn't have a "Designed for Windows 98" logon on the base unit. Et voila, a spanky new Compaq Presario laptop. I have the internets at home and everything (dialup for the time being). Mmm, real toys. I'll be doing the huge download-and-install-athon over the next couple of weeks, naturally...

Tangentially, Operation Slightly Less Me yields a surprise result: I found a pair of 34" trousers I could fit into. This may not sound like much but the last pair I bought were school uniform in 1987, so it's a big deal to me. They are, regrettably, amazingly gay white combats, but you can't have everything :)

Random thought of the day: terrorists value life more than motorists. Drivers just shrug and assume that a certain level of slaughter comes with the territory; terrorists know exactly the value of life and spend it freely.
