Upsides: free; quite clever import tool (it guesses where to cut shots); easy subtitles and soundtrack stuff. Downsides: simple - Fisher Price video if you're "serious"; one soundtrack at one time; once you enter titles, you can't apply a style to all so changing is a faff (I need bigger, clearer subtitles next time); restricted to WMV or pimpy DVD output, no MP3 (but that doesn't matter if you're just uploading to YouTube).
