With all due respect, considering the general WTF? quality of D. H Lawrence's concept of women's psychology, I'm not convinced I trust him on sparrows either.

Well, the assumption is presumably that the thing isn't self-aware and so cannot be self-absorbed in its woez. Which sounds pretty Buddhist actually.
