Wasn't digital film distribution supposed to dramatically change the way small-release stuff got out, letting the peasant masses nibble at quality sometimes?
Yebbut, this is cosmopolitan-centre-of-the-Multiverse Manchester, not hicksville-pointy-head Devon (ahem). I expect to be able to flounce into the centre of town and watch pretty much anything, especially since the Cornerhouse came into being in the 80's: Hell, that's why it opened.
Peasant masses nibbling at quality costs money dear boy. Digital distribution? That depends on your local fleapit having the means to show it (money), otherwise they're trying to shoehorn it into a marketing method like iTunes. Are you seriously going to pay for sub-DVD quality, DRM'd-to-buggery? no, you're going to rip it like everyone else. That's why it's not happening. Merry Christmas.
