Woo, the American army now say that climate change is down to solar forcing.  While I am (as usual) dismayed by high-profile non-specialists weighing in on the side of fiddling while Rome burns, the thought that some Americans could now be lulled into a "support the troops" "man-made climate change is un-American" sort of dogmatic folly is too hilarious to loathe.  It will happen.  You heard it here first.

In other news, General Motors considers cancelling the Hummer as it closes four plants.

If I live long enough to see it, I fully expect dogmatic anthropogenic-climate-change deniers to take their special place in Hell next to the good Germans.  I wonder, which of Danté's levels would they find reserved?

I think I'm thrice damned by your way of thinking Andy.

German-American that still is nominally religious. I should just give it up and stop recycling, start just consuming as much as possible before I die. I mean I'm already doomed by birth. Predetermination sucks, but it does give one a free pass to be a total waste.

WOO HOO humvee here I come! *runs amok through the house turning all the lights on in the middle of the day*

If I believed that I was truly unaccountable, I'd do worse than turning on the light switches though...

Probably best that we all live as good as we can and try not to do harm, instead, eh?

I really wasn't joking about the sea surface temperature rise being caused by differences in data collection.

Solar forcing my arse.

(My face still hurts :( )

Some of the other comments are scarier than the Army blogging scientific opinion about climate change.

"What it boils down to, Mr. President, is we're going to have to BOMB THE SUN."

And these people vote.

What's more worrying is that many of them know so little about the world outside their own country that they couldn't even tell you why polar bears don't eat penguins* and they constitute a nuclear-armed superpower.

Hypothetically speaking, they could bomb the sun.

Although I think that guy was joking.

They're not all that dumb. And eventually the reality-based community exerts influence (usually via the finance-based community).

Optimists believe that this is the best of all possible worlds.

Pessimists are afraid that it is.
