Melting!

Remember that North Pole webcam that I mentioned the other day?  Behind the cut is a shot of it sitting in a pool of its own meltwater.

Sure, surface melt is not uncommon in the Arctic, but it's a chilling sight, no?

Anyone got a sea kayak I can borrow?  My kayak-to-the-North-Pole plans are being brought forward by a few years.  :(

Oy for typos. Does anyone know how to edit a post after they've made a reply? I don't have a little icon for it. It seems to be start from scratch or leave it.

surface melt isn't new no, but as I understand things it leads to greater instability in the ice sheet.

It leaves me feeling a bit glad to be on the top of a hill. *sighs*
