The Distrust of Walls
Jan. 6th, 2008 10:46 pmPulling more wallboard out of my basement bathroom, I have revealed a stage set. The real walls - well, the solid earth bank that I assume is real - are painted in shiny black waterproofing Comfortably spaced within these walls is the frame on which my 'walls' were hung. The sink, once assumed to be up against the wall, is standing a yard from the real edge of the space. It feels weird. It feels fake.
I have a holodeck bathroom, arbitrarily projected into a shiny black space. It's very strange, and because only half of one wall is gone, it's easy to think that the rest of the room is open to this space as well. Maybe the bathroom is a set in a warehouse? What about all the other walls? All walls? Hell, why am I even assuming that the black walls are real, when next door found a room underneath the road by kicking through one of theirs.
I'm so glad I don't do acid.
