Pretty much into the final prep for Burnham now. Which consists of:

* Every night this week, swimmy goodness. Stroke practice, taking it easy. Up to 40 lengths now, so there's hope that the 20 needed at speed might happen without too much drama. More tonight, working on 50m and 75m blocks and trying to keep it easy and not tiring. The 500m on race day will still be the first time I've done that distance in one go, though.

* Bike prep: tiny tweaks to saddle position since fitting the Storika bondage saddle; it's spot on now and holds me like a stern glove. Been getting used to the tri bars (and drinking from the wazzy bottle) and trying to discipline myself into not leaping out of the saddle on every climb! And enjoying doing the Ullrich Grind - head down, silly grimace, belly breathing, big gear. Full tool kit will be going with me, natch; I'll lube and pump th ebike on Saturday. No more adjustments - it's bedded in nicely and I'm not risking it. I know the form with last-minute tweaks.

* Run: A couple of 5ks, with some lamppost intervals, nothing serious. Calves are tight as buggery. I know I *can* run faster than I *do* run, need to address the headology of that.

Just a couple of swim drills to go and then it's game time, so here's to hoping. I have Xeeny's good name to preserve, after all...

Got the feeding sorted? Eat, eat and eat today and tomorrow - carbs good. And legitimate deserts. Plus fruit and salad to keep you regular. Leave plenty of time after eating before sleeping on Saturday night though. And hydrate lots, but not too much. No alcohol either.

They say that tonight is when you get your good sleep, as you tend to be too keyed the night before. Breakfast for Sunday planned? Xeeny and I like porridge with banana (I dribble honey on as well) at least 2 hours, preferably 3, before start.

And remember...Grrr! Your're a tiger!

Pre-event feeding is sorted; pasta is my friend and there is in fact porridge with banana and maple syrup in my belly as I speak. Life is good - these free and easy carb days are quite rare on the Incredible Shrinking Andy diet. Event feeding is something like:

* Last food 2h before start along with a short coffee and prophylactic hayfever meds. (From experience: 2h means my belly's empty and I won't need to do a Paula)

* Energy/electrolyte drink on the bike. Plan on taking a good gulp while getting up to speed and again a mile or so before T2, plus sipping where handy.

* Handful of jelly babies at T2. Cheap and cheerful sugar hit to spruik me for the run. Drink stations along the run...

* Another bottle of electrolyte spoo for T3 'cos after the last one I was wobbly and nauseous for hours for want of it. And then everything in sight, starting with the butty cart and moving on to vending machines, small children and local wildlife.

Good luck from me too! Looking forward to reading the report later.

Your mention of jelly babies reminds me that you can get sports jelly beans these days (though no-one I know has mentioned trying them yet). I think they're kind of like lucozade in jelly bean format.

Best of luck and remember that however bad things get, at least you don't have to run in a damp sports bra.

Not unless you sponsor me!

Mmm, salty man boobs...

I didn't even realise it was for charidee. How would I go about sponsoring you, then? I could probably find £10, unless it's for missionaries or the sort of animal rights people who go round letting minks out into the New Forest, neither of which I can really see you getting involved with.

It isn't - I don't usually do charidee events. And how hard is it to get a bra in 44a anyway?

You're just inciting me to ramble on about bras for your own odd amusement, though if asked I'd say Evans.

Are you up to 40 lengths crawl now?

Good man!

Cheers m'dear! Slow, mostly in 25s and 50s, and with lots of rest. But nothing motivates like a deadline, eh?

(Plus I realised that unless I did get up to speed pretty fast, I'd be washed out to sea and be eaten by hagfish come Bude)

Dead chuffed with the bilateral breathing.

I haven't done 40 crawl yet, but then I don't have time to hang around getting my breath back in between sets. I might have to let my distance take a knock and start doing crawl for my entire session, though, because this knee is not getting better.

Hey - remember Unix Bob? I ran into him today and he's still doing Triathlon too, but you won't see him at Burnham as he's doing the Royal Windsor Classic Triathlon instead.

Unix Bob with the really good thighs who used to commute in from Bath? Cool!
