The numbers are out.  This was a 481-strong wave of male 35-39 age-groupers: as fiercely competitive a group as I'll ever race against.  No bonus points for eating up half a field of "your mum on a shopper" this time.

Swim: 41:27; 448th (93rd percentile).  Could be worse...

T1: 4:39; 197th - booyah! 40th percentile! ha!  Take that, Cracknell!

Bike lap 1: 38:18;  Bike lap 2: 37:47 (faster because I'd worked out the racing line and so on).  Bike total: 1:16:04; 363 (75th percentile).  I normally get around midway in the field and I was going well, which shows that these guys weren't messing around.

T2: 4:25; 366th; 76th percentile.  A surprise dismount meant I couldn't get out of my shoes and had to clip-clop around the hall.

Run lap 1: 32:43;  Run lap 2: 32:17;  Run total: 1:04.  476 in the run. 99th percentile! Damn near the last man standing. Horror show, horror show.  Consistent times for each lap because, well, a shamble is a shamble.

Race total: 3:11:42 - out of a field of 481: 446 (92nd percentile)

No pics in the water - lots of green swim hats, nothing to see! Then out on the first bike lap:

Second lap, getting into it...

Out 2k into the run and praying my legs fire up soon...

8k done and still no spark: it's a death-march in the sun...

Sprint for the camera!

Fall down go boom.

Go Andy! I'm pretty damned impressed, but given that I couldn't complete half of any one of the legs of the race you ran (and would likely pull a muscle during the Ts because I'm hilariously uncoordinated), I won't be offended if you don't care.

People keep saying that and I would have too once - it's all just progressive development, just like weights. The human animal is staggeringly adaptable if it decides it wants to be. Excellence is a whole other thing, mind you - my times put me firmly down in the "doing it for the fun of it" category.

Especially that bloody run!

Well done Andy.

I'm doubt I could handle all 3, let alone in the heat!

Ha! Glad you enjoyed that, it looked like a hoot. My sister has moved back from Bermuda to London so I might have to think about combining a visit with this one at some point

If your tolerance for mega-scale events is good, it's fun. Transition is daft. But closed roads in central London... lovely.

I'd be up for a London posse I reckon.
