Can anyone explain this to me?  Found on the wall of an Evangelical church building site, this poster reads "Global Warning: The Son Will Return"

Now, is it merely apocalyptic froth of the regular sort?

Or is it a suggestion that climate change is, in fact, punishment for Man's sinful ways?

Or is it saying that Jesus is coming, so stop with the recycled hemp light-bulbs and get with the prayin', hippies!

(This particular approach to environmentalism, that we'll be Raptured before it all falls apart and Jay-sus wants you to drive that SUV, is particularly morally repellent)

And is it really suggesting that solar forcing is the primary reason for climate change, or am I reading too much into a crappy pun?

I don't understand evangelists.

Great your wisdom is. I'm still trying to work out what the idiot is trying to say, though. I'd like to know, before I punch him on the nose.

We need an eschatologist. Where's Joe?

Joe is still immersed in the freakish and bizzarre world of Neopets.

It's gotten so bad now that I've downgraded my fret alert for him from one week to two weeks. So, you know, if he ever does get ambushed by zombie manatees, he's going to have to survive by himself for a fortnight before I even start wondering where he is.

I think you're reading way too much into it. Most of the ones I encounter think they're terribly clever to make that sort of side-ways pun. It appears to make them feel both morally and intellectually superior.

I think it's just the basic *he's coming* propaganda.

Having been involved in a show featuring a live chat with the Westoboro Baptists, I can honestly say that 1) we're in Yurp, and Yurpeans ain't gonna be saved - they think we're too far gone, and 2) applying rational thought to evangelists is about as sensible as watching Coro St.

All of Yurp? How very, well, Old Testament.

Makes you wonder what the Evangelicals over here think...

Well, they didn't think much of either the Salvation Army ('you lie!'), or the Catholic Church ('well, they're renowned for perversion'), and both had reps on the show. Yurp's unsaveable because we promote homosexuality and deviance. Or something. They seemed pretty keen on literal adherence to a 16th century poetic translation of a late first century Greek translation of a first century Aramaic scroll of an oral tradition. I guess I stopped listening pretty early on.

On second thoughts, Coro St nearly makes sense in comparison.

Climate change is a punishment for our sinful names, as brought to you by the medium of bad puns. With the subtext that we need to be doing stuff now before the second coming arrives.

"sinful names" woah. Not sure what happened there but I like it ;) I meant to put "sinful ways" of course.

And your sinful name is? I'll go with Onan MacFelch. :)
